This course has been created to provide a theoretical understanding of Attachment Theory. Designed to give candidates the knowledge, skills and competencies to work within an Attachment framework, assessing clients from an attachment perspective and gaining an in-depth understanding to attachment seeking behaviours, injuries and defences. Giving therapists a deeper empathic appreciation of their client's internal world, and how that influences the client’s ability to create positive relationships. The course considers how relational depth is impeded by fear of safe emotional connection, and how to help clients become storied selves. We will explore human development, focusing on the role of attachment throughout the lifetime, with participants reflecting on their own experiences of attachment themes. The course will provide opportunities to learn and develop skills using an integrative model of attachment-based psychotherapy. Additional themes covered in the course will be; neurobiology, trauma, dissociation, shame, diversity, risk, rupture & repair, supervision, resilience, self-care and private practice. WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE? • Attending weekly live on-line training sessions • Maintaining a reflective journal of progress and self-awareness • Attending termly tutorials with a personal tutor • Completing a range of assignments including a case presentation, case study and a written assignment Reading from the required reading list • Completion of a portfolio of written work • Completion of a minimum of 20 hrs of supervised clinical practice • Completion of 20 hours of attachment informed personal counselling / psychotherapy The course will also require an additional time commitment for study, reading, research and written work in addition to attending the training session each week.
